Explosives Magazine Safety Requirements

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives ("ATF") proposes amending Department of Justice ("Department") regulations to streamline requirements for maintaining structures used for storing explosives, called "magazines." ATF proposes consolidating many requirements from four regulatory sections into one, while eliminating other provisions within those sections. The new section would address three topics: safety requirements outside a magazine, inside a magazine, and storing requirements. This proposal would remove unnecessary provisions and examples confusing to the public; update other provisions; and rescind two regulatory sections. The consolidated regulation would also incorporate ATF guidance authorizing alternative methods for storing explosives within containers. The official record describes this as a completed action.
